A Day of Country Fun: Looking Back at the Newton Abbot Country Show

If you’re looking for family days out in Devon, there’s nothing quite like a good country show – and this year’s Newton Abbot Country Show brought together animals, entertainment, activities, music, food and plenty of family fun for a brilliant summer day out.

Held here at Newton Abbot Racecourse, the Country Show welcomed families, friends and visitors from across South Devon for a packed day of things to see and do.

Something for everyone

One of the best things about a country show is that you never quite know what you’ll discover around the next corner!

Visitors to this year’s event could get up close to some very special Dartmoor Hill Ponies, enjoy carriage rides and meet the feathered residents of Torbay Owls.

For those looking for something a little more adventurous, there was plenty to get involved with. Visitors could try their hand at axe throwing with Devon and Cornwall Bushcraft, test their aim with the Torquay Company of Archers, tackle the climbing wall or get active with Saints Southwest sports activities.

There was also inflatable fun for younger visitors, making sure there was plenty to keep children entertained throughout the day.

Wagging tails at the Dog Show

The Dog Show was another highlight, with plenty of four-legged visitors taking part in a variety of fun classes.

From proud pooches to wagging tails, the show gave dog lovers the chance to get involved and enjoy some friendly competition – and there were certainly plenty of happy dogs around the showground!

Classic cars, countryside traditions and live entertainment

Car enthusiasts were also well catered for, with a display of classic and show cars bringing together a fantastic selection of vehicles.

The show also celebrated some of the traditions and entertainment associated with the countryside, including performances from Newton Bushel Morris Dancers and a parade of hounds by South Devon Hunt.

And when it was time to relax, visitors could head to the live music stage and beer garden, sit back and enjoy the entertainment while soaking up the summer atmosphere.

Shopping, food and plenty to discover

Of course, no country show would be complete without plenty of opportunities to browse, shop and eat!

The indoor craft and gift stalls offered visitors the chance to discover something different, while food and drink outlets provided plenty of options for refuelling during the day.

With so many different activities and attractions spread across the showground, families could easily spend several hours exploring everything on offer.
