Supporting Our Communities Through Racing Together Community Week
We were proud to take part in this year’s Racing Together Community Week, joining organisations across British racing in giving back to local communities through volunteering and community action.
Racing Together Community Week is British racing’s national volunteering initiative, bringing together racecourses, trainers, owners, staff and businesses to support causes that make a genuine difference in their local areas. The initiative has grown significantly in recent years, with thousands of volunteering hours now contributed annually across a wide range of community projects.
As part of this year’s programme, members of our team dedicated their time to supporting a number of inspiring local organisations tackling important issues within the community.
Supporting Food Poverty Initiatives
Some of the team volunteered with Rotary Newton Abbot and Devon & Cornwall Food Action (DCFA) at their Pop-Up Supermarket initiative. The project is a community-driven response to food poverty across Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall, helping ensure that individuals and families have access to nutritious food while also preventing perfectly good food from going to landfill.
The Pop-Up Supermarket provides affordable access to food and household essentials, supporting people during challenging times while promoting sustainability and reducing waste. It was incredibly rewarding for our team to play a small part in helping such a vital initiative continue its important work.
Supporting Women in the Local Community
Another member of the team spent time volunteering with Ladies Lounge in Torbay, an organisation that provides a safe and welcoming space for women affected by domestic abuse or sexual abuse.
Ladies Lounge offers peer support, practical services and engaging activities that help women connect, rebuild confidence and begin to heal. The opportunity to support an organisation making such a meaningful difference to women within the local community was both humbling and inspiring.
The Importance of Community Engagement
Racing Together Community Week highlights the positive impact the racing industry can have beyond the sport itself. Across the country, organisations take part in activities ranging from charity partnerships and food bank support to environmental projects, school outreach and wellbeing initiatives.
For us, taking part was not only an opportunity to support worthwhile causes, but also a chance to strengthen our commitment to community engagement and responsible business practices.
We are delighted to have been able to support these important projects and would like to thank all of the organisations involved for welcoming our team.
This week has reinforced how valuable volunteering can be — both for the communities being supported and for the people taking part. We are already exploring ways to further develop our community and volunteering activities in the future and look forward to building even stronger relationships with local organisations.
