Sun Racing Summer Jumps Championship Summary

By Chris Loader

Summer Champion Jockey – Harry Skelton is very likely to win this he’s just over 100 points clear of Sean Bowen. If he remains in the lead after Kelso’s fixture on Wednesday then Sean Bowen cannot mathematically catch him. However, he could win this earlier depending on Sean Bowen’s rides on Monday/Tuesday.

Summer Champion Trainer – After yesterday’s results at Worcester, Dan Skelton has officially won this category. His stable have been informed and his assistant Tom Messenger will represent him at the Finale for the presentations.

Summer Champion Smaller Trainer – This category is likely to be decided at the Finale at Newton Abbot. David Pipe currently leads the standings, but Micky Hammond is close behind in second place, just five points adrift, while Nick Scholfield sits third, only eight points off the lead. All three contenders have strong representation next week. David Pipe has seven entries at Uttoxeter, Micky Hammond has five entries at Sedgefield on Monday and two at Kelso, and Nick Scholfield has four entries at Uttoxeter and three at Kelso. All three stables have been contacted and are expected to have runners at Newton Abbot for the Finale, setting up what promises to be a closely fought conclusion to the competition.

Summer Champion Owner – Hools & Forces Partnership remain in a strong position. They lead JP McManus in second by 27 points and hold a 32 point advantage over the David Pipe Racing Club in third place. They currently have two entries at Sedgefield and two at Uttoxeter, but are not expected to have any runners at Newton Abbot. The David Pipe Racing Club appears to be their most significant challenger, with five entries at Uttoxeter and are likely to have some runners at Newton Abbot.

Things To Note

Double Points Race at Newton Abbot – The last race on the card the Sun Racing Summer Jumps Championship Finale will be worth double points. If we get 8 or more runners then the winner will get 20 points, second-place 10 points, and third-place four points. It’s likely all three stables the Smaller Trainer category could have runners in this race, including the David Pipe Racing Club, so hopefully we’ll get a grandstand finish in one of the categories.
