Racing and Events Update for Newton Abbot Racecourse - April 2021
Currently all horseracing fixtures in England must take place behind closed doors and without spectators. This includes our meetings on Wednesday 5 May and Wednesday 12 May.
The Government announced plans to help the country out of its national lockdown and we are hopeful that from 17 May racing will be able to welcome up to 4,000 spectators if the Government’s tests are met for moving into Phase 3 of lifting lockdown restrictions. However, it is very unlikely that Newton Abbot Racecourse will be able to have 4,000 spectators but could have from 1,000-2,000 dependent on negotiations with our local authority Safety Advisory Group. The 2m distancing rule and the racing green zone will need to be lifted to enable us to resume operations.
With this in mind, we will not be opening ticket bookings until at least Monday 17 May. We will continue taking provisional bookings for private box and restaurant reservations but will not be taking deposits until we have a clearer picture of when we can fully open.
With regards to our other events, we are currently taking reservations for exhibitors at the Country Show on Saturday 7 August, but the event will need to be given clearance by the EHO and our Safety Advisory Group. We will post updates as and when we can.
We are not holding Car Boot Sales at the moment and will update when we will be able to start them.
The Antiques Fair may re-open on our scheduled date of Saturday 31 July. Again, we will confirm this through the website as soon as possible.
Please call the racecourse office on 01626 353235 to discuss with our staff all the opportunities available.
