Newton Abbot to receive Gold Standard award
Newton Abbot will become the latest track to join the ranks of ROA Gold Standard racecourses with a presentation during racing at its opening fixture of the season on Sunday March 18. The presentation will be made to the racecourse executive by Paul Duffy, a member of the ROA Council and the Gold Standard Committee.
The award recognises overall excellence in the raceday experience for owners, their horses and stable staff. Newton Abbot becomes the eighteenth current holder of the coveted accolade.
Paul Duffy, ROA Gold Standard Committee member, said: “We are pleased to award the Gold Standard to Newton Abbot. Pat Masterson and his friendly team do a very good job for owners, and it has been a pleasure to work with them on the Gold Standard process. We were particularly impressed by the improvements to the owners & trainers facilities.”
Newton Abbots total prize-money for 2011/12 was over 650,000 and it is one of only two courses where owners are not charged an entry fee to run.
Pat Masterson, managing director of Newton Abbot Racecourse, said: “Newton Abbot racecourse is delighted and honoured to be recognised for this tremendous award. At Newton Abbot the owners are very important to us, and we shall endeavour to continue to enhance their raceday experience. We are very grateful to the ROA Council and to Paul Duffy for their advice and assistance in obtaining this accolade.”
