Newton Abbot Racecourse marks the start of the long-awaited summer holidays this weekend with a family-friendly day at the races on Sunday 21st July.

Ever-popular with families, the fixture marks the first of six meetings happening during the summer break. To celebrate the start of the holidays, the afternoon will also feature two pony races and the ever-popular Family Enclosure will open again for all fixtures until Sunday 1st September.

On Sunday, the racecourse will play host to a new ‘Kids Love the Races’ roadshow which is visiting 20 racecourses across the country over the summer. With an aim of encouraging more children to become interested in the world of horseracing, the roadshow will be running a number of fun activities including the chance to race on a horse simulator, design their own racing silks and more.

Discussing the forthcoming fixtures, Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse, said: “With the fantastic weather on side, we couldn’t have wished for a better way to start the summer holiday racing season.

“Over the coming weeks we have some great fixtures lined up for families to enjoy. With our free entry policy for under 16s and students, plus a host of other money-saving offers for the coming fixtures, we’re trying to make a trip to the races affordable for all to encourage as many families as possible to become more interested in the sport.

“We’re delighted to play host to the ‘Kids Love the Races’ roadshow and we’re confident that a lot of children will leave the course on Sunday with a new found love of the sport.”

Following Sunday’s fixture, horseracing fans from across the South West are expected to descend on the racecourse for the racecourse’s self-funded £100k fixture on Saturday 3rd August. Being the richest fixture of the year at the course, some of the top horses, jockeys and owners are expected to compete.

This Sunday will also see the deadline close for August’s two back-to-back evening fixtures which will take place on Wednesday 21st August and Thursday 22nd August. Those who book their tickets before Sunday 21st July can enjoy a Paddock Enclosure ticket to both evening fixtures for £25 instead of £36.

Tickets for Sunday’s fixture are on sale now and can be bought online until 5pm this Saturday. Tickets will also be available on the gate on the day. Racing will start at 2:20pm with gates opening at 12:20pm.
