Mother's day curtain raiser for Newton Abbot

The new racing season at Newton Abbot jumps into action this weekend on Mothering Sunday and offers an extended season of 19 horseracing fixtures between March and October.

Racing highlights at Newton Abbot Racecourse include the family-favourite Easter Saturday meeting on April 7th, Ladies’ Day on Tuesday June 26th and our landmark £100k prize fund fixture on August 4th.

Due to the enforced summer horseracing break period, Newton Abbot Racecourse were scheduled to have a four-week period during July and August with no fixtures taking place.

However, to ensure that the thousands of holidaymakers in the region during the summer break don’t miss out on their annual trip to the races, a self-funded fixture is planned for August 4th with a prize fund of £100k.

The prestigious fixture on August 4th is set to attract some of the biggest names in horseracing to the course and will allow thousands to witness the excitement of watching top-class racehorses in full-flight.

Patrick Masterson, Newton Abbot Racecourse’s Managing Director, discussed the forthcoming season: “We’re extremely excited about the new season at Newton Abbot. The addition of our August 4th fixture is set to be a tremendous spectacle in the racecourse’s history. The opportunity to see some of the very best horses, jockeys and trainers in action here at Newton Abbot will be an unmissable chance for seasoned racegoers and newcomers alike.”

“At Newton Abbot Racecourse we are ever-aware of the continuing economic conditions and have implemented a series of money-saving horseracing initiatives to ensure that as many people as possible can continue to enjoy a day at the races this year.”

“Seasoned racegoers at Newton Abbot will be pleased to hear that we will be continuing our 2-4-1 Paddock Enclosure ticket sale promotion for all Monday fixtures, when purchased at least one week in advance.”

“We have also extended our under 16s free entry policy to all students at colleges and universities throughout the country upon production of a valid student or NUS card. This means free entry to the horseracing at Newton Abbot for all students.”

“Furthermore, to celebrate our landmark August 4th fixture, we are running a money-saving horseracing ticket promotion where all tickets purchased before 4th July will cost just £10 with access to both the Course and Paddock Enclosures.”

“The whole team are very excited about the new season and we look forward to welcoming our guests again on Mothering Sunday.”

The season curtain-raiser at Newton Abbot will begin at 1:45pm on Sunday 18th March. Tickets are now available online or by calling 01626 353 235.
