Listed race for back-to-back September fixtues at Newton Abbot

As Newton Abbot Racecourse enters the final third of its 2012 season, the racecourse are gearing up for the pinnacle race of its calendar – Class 1 listed race; the Lord Mildmay Memorial Handicap on September 1st.

Taking centre stage in its back-to-back weekend of meetings on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd, the listed Class 1 race over 2m5f110y will take place at 4:05pm on Saturday 1st September. This will be followed on Sunday with the Class 2 Totepool Handicap Hurdle with a prize fund of £25k.

Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse, discussed the forthcoming double fixture weekend: “Our back-to-back fixture weekend has always proved popular, with our summer festival weekend usually taking place at this time. However, due to changes in the racing calendar, we’ve made alterations this season to ensure we have a constant stream of fixtures throughout our season.”

“Earlier in the month we hosted our self-funded fixture – the richest-ever in our history – which was tremendously received by all. Whilst we have moved away from the summer festival this year, we’ve retained our double fixture weekend and we’re sure it won’t disappoint.”

“Of course the pinnacle of the weekend will be the Class 1 listed Lord Mildmay Memorial Handicap on the Saturday, but the rest of the weekend will be filled with more great racing including the Class 2 Totepool Handicap Hurdle on Sunday afternoon.”

Four of Saturday’s races have been sponsored by some of the on-course bookmakers including Jack Bevan, Jack Oliver and Newton Abbot On-Course Bookmaker, who will also be holding a charity auction in aid of the Injured Jockeys Fund. All seven of Sunday’s fixtures will be sponsored by Totepool.

The double fixture weekend at Newton Abbot begins at 2:20pm on Saturday 1st September. Racing then returns the next day at 2:10pm. Tickets for both fixtures are on sale now and will be available on the gate on the day.

The Family Enclosure will be open for the last time this season and once again, children under 16 and students with a valid student ID or NUS card can enjoy free entry to the racecourse.
