Free horseracing at Newton Abbot Racecourse
Newton Abbot Racecourse has announced plans to hold a free raceday on Thursday 12th April for the relocated Taunton fixture.
As announced last week, Taunton Racecourse was forced to make an early decision about their scheduled April 12th fixture. Due to very firm ground at the racecourse – as a result of the recent dry weather and with little rain forecast in the coming days – a decision was made to relocate the fixture to Newton Abbot Racecourse to allow the meeting to go ahead, rather than be abandoned.
Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse, announced the plans for the April 12th fixture: “Whilst it is unfortunate that Taunton Racecourse has had to move the fixture, we’re delighted to be able to save the meeting for all of the horseracing enthusiasts in the South West.”
“As it is an unplanned addition to the Newton Abbot season, we have taken the decision to host this fixture as a free meeting. Racegoers need not book tickets in advance as they will be admitted free of charge on the day.”
“This is a great opportunity for holidaymakers and horseracing novices alike to experience a day at the races.”
Those who have already purchased tickets for the planned Taunton fixture are advised to contact Taunton Racecourse for further information on 01823 337172.
The first race at Newton Abbot will take place at 2:20pm, with the final of the day’s seven races scheduled for 5:45pm. Due to the late addition of this fixture, not all facilities at Newton Abbot will be open. These include the Paddock Restaurant, Silks and the Course betting halls.
