Family-friendly fixture kick starts the summer holidays
Newton Abbot Racecourse marks the start of the school holidays on Sunday with a family-friendly day at the races including children’s entertainment and two pony races.
To round off the first of five fixtures taking place at the course over the summer period, racegoers will be treated to watching youngsters aged 11 to 15 compete in two pony races at the end of the day’s main racing.
Alongside the pony racing, Sunday will also see the re-opening of the Family Enclosure where adults will be able to watch the afternoon’s racing from the centre of the course whilst children are entertained with inflatables and giant garden games.
Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at the racecourse said: “A day at the races is always a family favourite during the summer holidays and we hope this year will be no exception.”
“Not only do we have five fixtures during the holiday period, but we’re looking forward to some of the country’s top jockeys and horses joining us on Saturday 4th August for the richest fixture in the racecourse’s history. It should prove to be a real treat for horseracing fans in the South West.”
“Furthermore, this year families with older children will be able to benefit from an even better value day out with the extension of our free entry policy to include students with a valid student ID or NUS card.”
Alongside the afternoon’s racing, Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey Hadden Frost will take centre stage in the Parade Ring where his flowing locks will be chopped in the name of charity.
Frost’s 12 inch mane will be carefully shorn in an attempt to raise money for Little Princess Trust, a children’s charity that supports children suffering hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. In addition to raising money, his hair will be sent abroad and transformed into a wig to help a child in need.
Sunday’s racing begins at 2:25pm. Tickets are on sale now at www.newtonabbotracing.com or by calling 01626 353 235. Further information about Little Princess Trust can be found online at www.littleprincesstrust.org.uk
