Family Day Returns to Newton Abbot Racecourse This Sunday

Family fun awaits at Newton Abbot Racecourse’s Family Raceday this coming Sunday, 21 July 2019.

With under 18s racing free at all fixtures at Newton Abbot Racecourse this year, this is a fantastic money-saving day out for families looking to start the summer holidays on a high.

Kick-starting the day’s racing action will be a closely fought mascot race featuring some of the region’s best-loved mascots.

Scheduled to take place at 13:40, the mascot race will feature Ozzie the Otter from Ladram Bay Holiday Park; Mac the Penguin from Paignton Zoo & Living Coasts; Bravo the Police Dog from Devon and Cornwall Police; Minnie and Mickey Mouse from South West Inflatable Theme Park and Hurriet the Horse from Newton Abbot Racecourse.

Taking place in the racecourse’s newly located children’s play area will be free face painting, balloon modelling and a spot of magic to help keep the younger racegoers entertained between races.

New for this year’s Family Day will also be Portable Putts, a mini golf course situated in the Course Enclosure where racegoers can put their golfing abilities to the test for just £2.50 for 9 holes.

The Family Raceday comes after statistics released by Great British Racing revealed that 79% of parents in Plymouth believe there aren’t enough low-cost activities available for children during the summer holidays, leading to more children spending fewer hours outside.

At all fixtures at Newton Abbot Racecourse under 18s race free alongside students with a valid photographic ID or NUS card to ensure that the sport continues to whet the appetite of future racegoers.

With larger crowds anticipated on Sunday, the racecourse has added a number of additional bars and toilets to help ease queues and ensure a great racing experience for all.

Tickets are on sale now priced at just £14 for Course Enclosure or £22 for Paddock Enclosure with discounts available on Paddock Admission when booking online in advance.

Gates open at 12:05 ahead of the first official race of the day at 14:05.
