Abbot's Whispers - Tuesday 28 May
Race 1 – 2:20
It’s not too easy to be bullish about the chances of any of these, as many have questions to answer. LOOKING HOPEFUL will need to settle better if he is to fulfil his potential, but with just about the best form on offer, gets a tentative vote. Staigue Fort hasn’t had too many chances and rates a danger, along with Honour System and Keep The Cash.
Race 2 – 2:50
Several of these make their debut over fences today, so a bit of guesswork is required. Wayward Glance could prove best of the newcomers with the booking of Tony McCoy suggesting connections mean business, but he lacks race fitness and his jumping has to be taken on trust. As such, it may pay to side with PALACE JESTER in the hope he will be given a positive ride and put his jumping experience to good use. Well Mett and American Spin may prove best of the others.
Race 3 – 3:20
QOUBILAI is a bit more exposed than a few of these, but he appeared to appreciate the return to hurdling on his latest start and may prove hard to beat with a similar display. Lady Lectra receives all the allowances at the foot of the weights and could have place claims, along with Neston Grace and ex-pointer Sportsreport.
Race 4 – 3:50
This represents a drop in grade for Anquetta who had a fair sort behind when winning at Worcester earlier this month. He could prove hard to beat, but he has to concede plenty of weight to FIFTYONEFIFTYONE who is on the upgrade and looks well treated under a penalty for his latest success. Takeroc is on a handy mark and it would be no surprise to see an upturn in form, with the champion jockey booked.
Race 5 – 4:20
LORD OF THE DUNES was by no means harshly treated with a 5lb rise for his recent victory and he looks capable of finding further success. Although that latest win came on a fast surface, he’s related to winners on softer ground, so the forecast rain should be of little concern. Nothing Is Forever looks the chief threat as he remains fairly treated despite taking a hike up the weights. Titch Strider took a while to get off the mark and is worth opposing over today’s shorter trip.
Race 6 – 4:50
Many of these could be given a chance if they recovered their best form, with preference marginally for MASTER WELLS who is on a handy enough weight and hails from a yard that have hit form in recent weeks. The other veteran Rifleman is another that is on a fair mark and has the services of a capable pilot. Both Sovereign Spirit and Jewellery have winning form around here and are others to consider in a very open contest.
Rsce 7 – 5:20
HAMELDOWN TOR doesn’t appear to meet anything of the calibre he was up against at Cheltenham last time and this multiple point winner is fancied to get off the mark under rules. Shrewd Investment looks the chief threat, while both Delta Borget and Tiermore are solid perfomers and shouldn’t be far away.
