Abbot's Whispers - Racing preview Thursday 22 August
5.35 PLACEPOT: 6 & 3
A very open maiden hurdle to start the evening, Osorios Trail has the best hurdles form and took on much stronger opposition nine days ago at Stratford so will be sure to start favourite. Another to have a chance if he can reproduce his Huntingdon form from earlier this year is Portway Flyer. However the Mick Channon trained HIGHLIFE DANCER who has won three races on the Flat this summer may just have the class and speed needed to win this event.
6.00 PLACEPOT: 4
MONTY’S REVENGE is a course and distance winner in the past and is 4lb lower than when he won over the trip at Towcester in the winter, he had a comeback run at Worcester which should put him right for this evening. Chase Gate a course winner here over 2m6f will go close but may just find the longer trip too much. Health Is Wealth is taking on lesser opposition and is a danger but Minella Bliss has shown very little todate.
6.35 PLACEPOT: 5
There may only be six runners but this is a very competitive handicap hurdle, Pasture Bay a recent winner at Market Rasen has a very good chance but may find one or two too good this evening. Philip Hobbs classy chaser Gauvain is switched back to the smaller obstacles and the market will indicate his chances, Cool Macavity and Life And Sole have both won novice events this summer and are both from yards inform and give weight to the useful handicappers Rum And Butter and GET HOME NOW. The former has won twice this year over the course and distance but we burden Peter Bowen’s charge with our selection he was a very impressive winner last-time out at Market Rasen over the trip.
7.05 PLACEPOT: 6 & 10
Sugar Hiccup tackles fast ground for the first time over hurdles having won on good to firm on the Flat and with the champion jockey engaged she will go very close. We also we expect Illegale to run well and make the frame but NO WOMAN NO CRY is our selection he has won three times here, twice over the course and distance.
7.35 PLACEPOT: 1
Mibleu showed himself to still be capable at this level when winning at Uttoxeter back in June and he appears to have the beating of Bennys Quest on that form. Manger Hanagment won off a 2lb higher mark at Taunton in April and has every chance here. But TROOPER CLARENCE is back on a decent mark and always runs well in smaller fields and was an easy winner last time he ran at this level.
8.05 PLACEPOT: 7 & 1
A very open bumper What A Joke is a point-to-point winner so as some appeal, Ruperra Tom ran at Uttoxeter last month and wasn’t disgraced and must have each-way chances. HAZEL BROOK who was bred for the flat made a very promising start at Southwell finishing second and should go one better here tonight. On breeding Chalk It Down who is by Milan should be watched.
