Abbot's Whispers - Racing Preview 16 June

Race Preview 16th June 2014

2.30: Prettyasapicture has claims here she acquitted herself well when placed in a bumper in February and showed promise on hurdling debut at Wetherby last month. AUGUST HILL completed a hat-trick last time at Ludlow and with conditions and moderate opposition should make it a four-timer here. Enchanting Smile looks the best of the rest.

3.00: Miller’s Maverick had patchy form over hurdles but put in a good effort to finish second at Worcester on chasing debut and will go close. TAFFY THOMAS’ drop in the handicap certainly helped last time when only beaten a length at Market Rasen he is well treated here and should run a big race. Qualypso D’allier has recently run into form and looks to be capable of a placed today.

3.30: Honour System showed promise last time when second at Southwell but looks to have been burdened with a hefty rise which makes it harder here. Another to receive an increase in weight is Revani who also looks to be running into form. Purple ‘N Gold certainly has the ability but EASILY PLEASED has been very consistent this spring and we expect a big run from Martin Hills course winner today.

4.00: The Nephew was a course and distance winner here in April but with Tony McCoy opting for the ride on ABLE DEPUTY we burden him with our selection. He won very well over the distance at Fakenham earlier this month and looks well treated here. Engai won well at Stratford over 2m last time and goes up 9lbs but could be a danger here.

4.30: Recent Uttoxeter winner Phar Away Island won’t be far away and is running well for his new connections, Dais Return is another to win for new connections but whether he can repeat that off a 7lb higher mark is questionable. DIPITY DOO DAH produce a good performance here last week when third and we fancy him to take this contest for the inform Peter Bowen. Pennant Dancer is another in good form but has shot up the weights.

PLACEPOT: 10 & 11

5.00: RESPECTUEUX impressed here last week when beating Mon Chevalier by more than four lengths over the distance, that win came in a higher grade race so should be good enough to defy his penalty. Wicklewood’s two recent wins at Towcester came with give in the ground and he might find it difficult on a faster surface. On The Case won a Perth and looks to be progressing could run well here.

5.30: Bernisdale finished a respectable second at Stratford over the distance and holds Border Station on that form who finished further back in third that day. Applause For Amy followed up her Wincanton win with a hard fought victory over a shorter trip here last week and carries a penalty over the longer trip today. ROLLING DOUGH was always travelling strongly when winning comfortably at Cartmel last month and looks to be the one they all have to beat.
