Abbot's Whispers - Race Review Monday 9 June

The At The Races Sky 415 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle 2m6f was run at a steady gallop on good ground. The Kim Bailey trained AMAZING D’AZY under Tony McCoy showed good attitude following her recent Towcester win to land this race under a penalty. She took up the lead from the 7th and stayed on strongly when pressed to beat Roll On Ruby by ¾ lengths.

The Follow NewtonAbbotRace On Twitter Handicap Chase 2m 1/2f was run at a solid gallop. The race went to Leominster based second season trainer Sarah-Jayne Davies’s RESPECTUEUX who jumped well in front and rallied to regain his lead after the second last to beat Mon Chevalier by 4 ½ lengths, with the 6/5F Nomadic Storm a further 9 lengths back in third.

The Independent Racecourse Limited, IRL Novices’ Hurdle 2m1f looked a three horse race according to the betting market and that proved to be the case. Peter Bowen’s ROLLING MAUL was given a superb ride by Jamie Moore setting a good pace he had the field strung out but had to put in a gutsy performance to see off the challenge of Manjakani to win by ahead. The winner looks to be heading to Market Rasen’s Summer Plate meeting.

The Nicky Henderson trained MAKARI lowered the course record by almost three seconds in The SIS At The Heart of Racing Novices’ Chase 2m ½ f. The free running 10/11 favourite was soon in front and ran on strongly under Andrew Tinkler to make it two from two over fences beating It’s A Gimme by nine lengths.

There was a solid pace set in The newtonabbotracing.com Handicap Hurdle 2m1f and the race finished up with Mary Sanderson’s recent Wincanton winner APPLAUSE FOR AMY under Tom Scudamore battling it out with Miss Fortywinks to win by ahead.
The Sunflower Day Nursery Handicap Chase 2m 5 ½ f was dominated from the front by NEVEROWNUP, who set a strong gallop to make it a four timer. Trained by Dr Richard Newland and ridden by Tom O’Brien the 8/11 favourite won unchallenged from Rockchasebullett some 22 lengths back in second place.

DETOUR AHEAD made it back to back wins for her new connections when winning The SIS Bringing Betting To Life Handicap Hurdle 2m 6f. The Warren Greatrex trained 5/6 favourite under Gavin Sheehan went well clear with According To Sarah and the pair of them battled it out three from home with a short head the winning margin.
