Abbot’s Whispers - Race Preview Thursday 8th May

2.05: Fight Commander and Rouquine Sauvage both look improving types but both may need this race. Morito Du Berlais as bumper form but as failed to build on that form in two hurdling starts cheekpieces and tongue tie fitted here. SIDBURY HILL is credited with the best bumper form including a second to the high-class Josses Hill at Ascot last November. He produced a solid third at Chepstow which should put right for a victory here. Philip Hobbs River Deep showed promise in all three bumper starts including a battling success at Huntingdon and should run a big race.
PLACEPOT: 11 & 10

2.35: Moneymix ran well to finish second to Shantou Breeze at Plumpton last month and should appreciate this drop in trip. It’s the former French chasing winner UMUSTBEJOKING who looks the pick of these, she stayed on well at Southwell last month to finish second and will go well here for a yard in form. Meirig’s Dream has claims but needs to improve on his recent form.

3.05: Dr Richard Newland’s Smalib Monterg returns for a summer campaign but may just have to much to do off top weight. CANADIAN DIAMOND trained by Brendan Powell looks to be the on. He as the best form coming into this race producing a series of good efforts in better company than this. Frozen Over and Going Concern have chances despite being at the foot of the handicap. Rock On Rocky looks to be the main treat following his recent second at Chepstow last month.

3.35: Friendly Society won at Fontwell Park last Friday and should go well here today for trainer Noel Williams. Victor Dartnall’s Moleskin could run a big race he as the ability and will be all the better for his recent run at Towcester. LOUGH COI is our selection to follow up his brave victory last time out at Towcester Charlie Deutsch’s 7lb off could be key!

4.10: ENCHANTING SMILE won over the course and distance last month and this game mare handles ground with cut so should follow up. Henri De Boistron has shown little in four starts but may do better for trainer Tom George now he is in handicapping company. Evan Williams Devil’s Dyke ran a second at Ffos Las last time and is one to watch the yard had a good Punchestown Festival!

4.45: A very difficult contest to judge. Top weight Strong Wind should go close having recently won a point-to-point. Chris Down’s mare THEDEBOFTHEYEAR looks the one to be on, she is dropped in class and if she reproduces her form from February winning in heavy ground that should be enough with the 7lb claim! Kozmina Bay maybe a danger if reproducing her Uttoxeter form of last December.

5.20: COOMBE HILL has been running well in point-to-points in this area and rallied well to win here at the start of last month and rarely seems to run a bad race. He is closely matched with Iron Chancellor on that form as the latter was third on that day. Double Bank is a danger he ran a very good race here at the last meeting just going down to Bermuda Boy.
