Abbot's Whispers - Race Preview Monday 8th September 2014

2.10: Gin And Tonic showed some promise in bumpers but was beaten a long way when second of four runners at Southwell may need further. UPSANDDOWNS won a bumper in Kilbeggan a year ago and ran well here on debut for Evan Williams finishing second to a useful looking Arabic History in a bumper can make it a winning debut over hurdles here. Northern Bay was a runner-up on hurdling debut in France over the distance in April and was fourth on fast ground on hurdling debut for David Pipe he could pose a threat here.

2.40: Wiesentraum has won three chases and runs very well at this level so don’t be surprised to see him run a big race here, Velator is capable of winning this if he can repeat his Wincanton form from last year. ALLTHEKINGSHORSES stays well and is a battler as shown when winning at Wincanton in May over this trip.

3.10: Evan Williams On Tour is a point-to-point and bumper winner and is sure to put up a better effort here than when he was beaten on hurdling debut at Worcester last time. Carre Noir arrives from France with 0-14 in minor races there and makes his stable debut for the in-form Martin Hills, Ice Konig is another French import who having won twice there could be a danger here. We burden the in-form John Ferguson’s HAWKER with our selection this well-bred Flat winner for Godolphin made his debut over hurdles in a Listed race at Musselburgh, when beaten by stable mate Brougton.

3.40: Lamb or Cod completed a hat-trick when winning here 3m 2f last month beating Abbeygrey by a 68 length margin he is in great form and will have every chance in this four horse contest. However, we burden David Pipe’s AINSI FIDELES with our selection this young chaser made it a hat-trick of victories when comfortably winning a 2m 4f novice chase at Market Rasen last time and has weight advantage here.

4.10: Provincial Pride was narrowly beaten by half a length in a novice handicap a week ago at Huntingdon and the booking of A P McCoy catches the eye. Jeremy Scott’s The Snappy Poet was unlucky when beaten a neck at Worcester last time and will go close if he repeats his Uttoxeter winning form here. BATHWICK MAN comes here on the back of two close second one coming here when beaten by a head over 2m 3f he is our fancy to obtain that elusive win here.

4.40: Finish The Story carries a penalty after opening his account at Worcester 2m7f and looks capable of winning here. SPEED CHECK was badly hampered last time at Huntingdon previously he won here over 2m 6f making it back-to-back wins and we fancy him to bounce back here. Another carrying a penalty is Lawney Hill’s Champion Versions following an impressive win at Sedgefield over the distance and could be the main danger.

5.10: Nicky Henderson’s only runner here is NICHOLAS CHAUVIN he has finished third twice in bumpers and was undone at Stratford last time due to a lack of pace, this looks a great opportunity to get off the mark. Dry Ol’party and Up Four It both showed signs of ability on bumper debut and are capable of running big races here.
