Abbot's Whispers - Monday 8th July
Joining us this afternoon? Make the most of the Devon sunshine and join us from 12:15pm for a great afternoon out with friends and family.
Take a look at our tips for this afternoon’s fixture!
RACE 1 – 2.15
ANOTHER HERO starts his hurdle campaign at a reasonable level and it would be very disappointing if he didn’t feature in the shake-up. Both Cannon Fodder and Lady Lectra have some form in the book which would give them a chance, although it would be no surprise to see better from Sportsreport on only his second start over hurdles and he could improve past that pair to give the selection most to do.
RACE 2 – 2.45
Ace Fighter Pilot was rated the best of these over hurdles and while he’s entitled to respect on that basis, there’s no doubting his chase debut was a little bit disappointing. He might be worth taking on and as ESCUDERO may not have stayed the 4m when last seen in a point he’s worth another chance on his first attempt over regulation fences. Well Mett and Ballylifen look the pick of the remainder.
RACE 3 – 3.15
Taking into account the jockey’s claim on Emerald Rose, there’s not an awful lot between her and MASSANNIE judged on their Uttoxeter run, but the David Pipe runner has been winning her races with plenty in hand and is fancied to defy a double penalty. The market might offer the best guide to Dungarvan Lass who hails from a top yard and makes her hurdle debut this afternoon.
RACE 4 – 3.45
Satou will be rightly popular after his recent wide-margin win and he’s likely to be bang there, despite a huge hike in the weights. Equally interesting is SHERIFF HUTTTON who has been in good form between the flags and shaped encouragingly on his first start for current connections when last seen over hurdles. Well treated on old form, he gets a narrow verdict. Royale Knight might not be done with yet and is another to consider in a wide-open handicap.
RACE 5 – 4.15
A tight handicap in which several could be given chances if they are at the top of their game. Party Palace has been in the form of her life but as she was below par on the flat last week, she’s taken on with DON’T TAKE ME ALIVE. The selection hails from a yard in good order and his form was boosted when the second won with ease next time. Mount Vesuvius is capable of winning one of these when everything drops right and rates a danger along with Jaja De Jau.
RACE 6 – 4.45
It will be interesting to see whether Marie Deja La can continue her improvement away from Fontwell and while she very much respected, LITTLE EAGLET is proven at this venue and gets the nod. The selection won over 3m3f on his last visit here but is equally effective over today’s trip and he remains fairly treated despite a 5lb rise for that success. Listen And Learn is difficult to evaluate having disappointed on his handicap debut, but having been well supported, it’s likely he’s better than he showed. He could prove troublesome, along with recent winner Detroit Red.
RACE 7 – 5.15
Many of these struggle to get their heads in front, so recent hurdle winner Kusadasi has obvious claims if he can transfer that improvement to fences. However, previous displays over birch were unconvincing and his jumping might be seriously tested if SPIRIT OF LAKE is given a positive ride from the front. Diamond Eclipse is another maiden who has shown ability and will surely open his account before long and rates a danger along with Mr Robinson who appears improved for the fitting of a visor.
