A rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at Newton Abbot Racecourse
We’re offering 25 horseracing novices, or even dedicated racegoers, the chance to go behind the scenes of horseracing at Newton Abbot at our evening fixture on Thursday 22 August.
If you’re a first timer or even a seasoned racegoer looking to make the most of a rare opportunity, you’re sure to learn something new about the world of horseracing.
This one-off experience will see 25 lucky racegoers be given a tour around one of the most popular racecourses in Devon, where they’ll walk the route that the horses take from the stables to the track, see the fences up close and visit the front of the weighing room.
They’ll also be given a talk on how to read the racecard, how bets are placed and what to look for in a horse as it walks around the Parade Ring. As an added bonus, the group will also be given the opportunity to choose the best turned out horses and present the prize to the winning connections.
Patrick Masterson, Managing Director at Newton Abbot Racecourse said: “Despite living near the racecourse, we find that so many local people are yet to make a visit to their local course as they feel they don’t know enough about the sport to be able to enjoy it to the full.
“With this in mind, we’ve decided to trial this beginners opportunity to encourage more people to learn about the fascinating sport and fully experience the thrill of watching the horses in full flight. It’s the ideal introduction to the sport for beginners and even a one-off opportunity for avid horseracing fans that are looking for a behind the scenes experience.”
The one-hour experience will begin at 3:30pm and those who register are asked to meet at the Parade Ring. If you’d like to join us for our beginner’s opportunity, register your place by Monday 19th August by calling us on 01626 353 235.
The experience will be offered at no extra cost to those who buy a Paddock Enclosure ticket.
